A Bunch of…

A fun and random little project being run by Bunch which I ran across on The Serif.

After far too much chasing I finally have my cards back from the printers. - And breathe out.

The rebrand is getting there, will have my business cards printed this coming week, you can see the new style of my stuff now on sreski’s entrance page although it’ll be quite a while before my portfolio gets treated to the new look.

I also found time to enter into one of The Serif’s redesigner challenges, with a recover of China Mieville’s Perdido Street Station, and also my recover of Paul Cornell’s British Summertime which I posted on scrapbook a while ago.

You can see what folks over on The Serif thought here.

I also did some poster designs using the full map of New Crobuzon (the metropolis in China Mieville’s series of books).

That’s all for now,
Mark.

And… then I was Without too
Posted in doodle, news by Mark on the April 22nd, 2007

Again bit of a delay in posting oops, lots of changes for me at the moment. Have finally left my job of three years at With in Manchester to go freelance. It was my first job in the industry as a designer and though I’d been unhappy there for some time, it was a great place to start out - sounds a bit trite to say it, but they did some good stuff, with lots of varied clients and work, and was a very fun place to start out and learn. And of course met a lot of cool people who I’m still in touch with, like that slacker Matt who posts pleasant abuse occasionally here.

Everyone was very cool with my leaving, so had a very cool send off and promptly got sick for a whole week shortly after my departure! But I have a few very nice pieces of work lined up already, and lots of leads to start chasing.

Soooo… Plans include updating my flash site with some new content and stripping out a few bits and pieces, and working on various of my own projects again, some nice new experimental stuff hopefully which I’ll post here of course. And in the chaos of clearing out my desk I dug out an old pad with lots of doodles see below :) And more from me soon hopefully.

In other news, cool seems to be my new favourite word, feel free to smack me in the face if I use it too much.

East meets biro
Posted in illustration, news by Mark on the January 28th, 2007

Just another quick little biro doodle, quite like how it turned out might tidy it up and make a shiny vector version of it sometime.

More news on the shiny ego front, I’m quite hooked to checking my website’s traffic now, so geeky I know, but was pleasantly surprised to see I now seem to have more attention from China than from Europe now, certainly surprised me, but quite flattering for my design style to be liked so far and wide. And the few pages I wedged through babel translator sounded quite nice indeed :D

Frantically busy week in work, created the first piece of work I’ve been happy with in months there, and it’s only the design for a web invite. Will pop it on my portfolio site in a few weeks probably.

New Year, thank f**k 2006 is over. Goodies for all!
Posted in news by Mark on the January 1st, 2007

Morning-ish! This is an almost scarily regular update, so I just wanted to wish you all Happy New Year! I’ve updated the goodies section finally, it now has a series of wallpapers, not too many right now, but hurrah section has content!

2006 feels like a horrible horrible blur, I can shut my eyes and remember last New Year as if it were a minute away. That said it’s been a steep learning curve for me, and I did survive and learn quite a lot, through necessity I know have a stronger career direction than I ever did before, but the year has felt like a battleground to accomplish anything, and this early in my career I’d rather be doing my job and enjoying it. But then I suppose that’s why scrapbook exists.

It wasn’t an all bad year though, I finally went on a holiday out of the country for the first time in years, which was really cool :) And I launched sreski and scrapbook.sreski of course, so it’s been a hard year but I feel like I’ve done all my career chores (eventually) and I can hopefully spend more of my free time on personal projects and enjoying myself.

So erm 2007 then, resolutions I suppose, work on more fun and frivolous projects. Continue developing secret mysterious projects with Rihards. Write more, I enjoy writing and though I have ideas and concepts, I rarely expand upon my notes. Hmm and various other things too probably.

That’s all for now :)

Follow through and flattery.
Posted in illustration, news by Mark on the December 22nd, 2006

Deep in the distant past I suggested I’d have a go at the Semi-Competitive competition, and with work and general procrastination it seemed I wasn’t going to get the time. And yet, I did find the time, at least to enter some designs for their fashion/t-shirt competition. I went with some ideas based on the current style for scrapbook, although I had various others, hopefully they’ll emerge as wallpapers on here at some point :)

In other news my web developer friend Rihards’ site which I designed and he created was featured on the web gallery Web Creme which was pretty cool, on his birthday no less which I think I’m meant to not mention. The design and CSS was even ripped off for an Opera community blog, how’s that for flattery :D

Welcome to scrapbook.sreski
Posted in news by Mark on the October 26th, 2006

It’s still very much under construction (beta to the people who would rather add reflection than learn how to do something useful hehe). When I’ve finished polishing up the edges I’ll properly launch it, it’ll just be a general design doodle and projects site, hopefully full of wallpapers and random thoughts and illustrations and 3D bits and pieces I create in my spare time.

When its all done, I’ll activate and allow comments and all that, still just ironing out bugs and making sure it all works for now!

Mark.
